Are Polypouch Pouches Suitable for Direct Contact With Food?

All Polypouch pouches are food grade certified as a minimum. The selected material still needs to suit your particular food and conditions of use. Before ordering, confirm suitability for fatty or acidic ingredients, filling temperatures and storage requirements, and request the relevant food contact documentation.

Do Crisps, Nuts and Dried Fruit Need Different Protection?

Yes. Crisps need protection against moisture that softens their crunch, while nuts need oxygen protection to help prevent their oils turning rancid. Dried fruit needs moisture control to maintain its texture. High barrier pouches limit oxygen and moisture transfer, but the specification should match your recipe.

How Do I Know What Shelf Life My Packed Food Will Have?

There’s no single shelf life that applies to every food pouch. Your recipe, production hygiene, sealing process and storage conditions all affect the result. Establish the shelf life through testing with your actual food in the final sealed pack, following the principles in the Food Standards Agency’s product guidance.

Can Ready Meals Be Cooked or Reheated Inside These Pouches?

Only use a pouch confirmed for the exact cooking or reheating process. Food grade certification alone doesn’t establish suitability for boiling, microwaving or pressure sterilisation. Give Polypouch the temperature, duration and equipment details when discussing your food pouch specification.

Will a Pouch Protect Biscuits and Other Fragile Foods During Delivery?

A flexible pouch protects the contents from direct handling, but it won’t provide the crush resistance of a rigid container.
